SYNOPSIS Three friends working in a Detroit car factory - Zeke, Smokey (both black) and Jerry (white)
- steal $600 of their union's funds. They are stunned when the local union president
announces that 'the sum stolen could be as high as $10,000. The friends have also stolen a
notebook which contains incriminating evidence about illegal loans. They are divided: Jerry
advocates exposing the corruption, but Smokey proposes blackmail. Their plans are
discovered. Smokey is 'accidentally' killed in the factory's paint shop; the ambitious Zeke is
bought off with a job as shop steward. Increasingly terrified, Jerry turns to Burrows, an FBI
agent, for help. When Jerry and his escort arrive at the factory to pick up his gear, he is
spurned by the other workers and attacked by Zeke.
